What happens in the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is an opportunity to think together about what has brought you to counselling and what you may be looking for from the work. It is also a chance to see whether the therapeutic relationship feels like a good fit for you.

I will ask about what has brought you to counselling, as well as some aspects of your background and early experiences. It is also a chance for us to talk through how counselling would work and for you to ask any questions or raise any concerns.

How long does counselling last?

This varies from person to person. Some people attend counselling for a shorter period, usually around 12 weeks, focused on a particular difficulty, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper or more longstanding patterns.

We discuss this openly and review regularly. You are never locked into a fixed commitment.

Is counselling confidential?

Confidentiality is an important and essential part of counselling. I explain this fully at the start of our work together, including the small number of situations where confidentiality may need to be broken for safety or legal reasons.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I offer both online counselling and in-person sessions in North London (Highgate). Online sessions follow the same structure and clinical approach as in-person sessions.

How often are sessions?

Sessions take place once weekly at the same time each week.
